Action

My shell pops back into the main chamber just in time.

"Screen" isn't really the right word. Your eyes are fixed points of perception. Your interface doesn't have this limitation, technically. But its immence processing power is throttled for the benefit of your fragile flesh, so you don't freak out and desync.

Assuming you're using market standard gear, that is. Overclocking voids your warranty and blows your mind. Trick is to keep that figurative and not literal. Should be fine as long as you don't stress things too much. Except the people who put jumpers on their limiters aren't in it for the "most serene sunset" experience.

Case in point. I'm looking at an opulent suite somewhere in the Paramount. Sprawling room, luxurious bed, champaigne in an ice bucket on a table. If you somehow got here with ancient gear, you'd see an image, or maybe multiple angles by switching between sensors. If you were riding standard, it'd be like you're watching a play on a stage. But turn the safeties off, and it's like you're right there, next to the couple that just barged in through the door, rippling clothes off each other.

One of them is Edge.
